Social network for teaching English?

Facebook, Twitter or myspace are some social networks that we use almost every day.
To me, there is a moment to learn and there is a moment to go on Facebook. Of course we can do both, learn going on Facebook but this is not the principal aim of social network. It is a way to share, to talk with your friends and just to have fun. However, we can use our own social network, something that we have to create by ourselves, with our proper ideas.
We could put on some homework that we have to do, a chat where we could talk about everything together, we could share newspaper's articles. The creation of a new website could be in one part a way to increase our computer skills and in a second part a way to learn a foreign language.

But please let us have fun with Facebook ;)

  1. I agree with You but i also think that teenagers and pupils really like these social networks. So , isn't that a great opportunity to attract their attention and to make them like what they learn , what they have to do at school ? ;)

  2. Of course that this is a great opportunity but if you transform somewhere where you go to have fun in somewhere where you are oblige to do something which is imposed, unfortunately it can change the way you see that.

  3. I think that learning and having fun can defenitively work together, especially with young students who know perfectly how to use these technologies and this social network.

  4. Yes, I see you what you mean, but the first aim actually is that they don't see it as a compulsory thing they have to do ! On the contrary, the aim is to give them something they will appreciate to work on. But I totally respect your opinion.
